Where do I get the latest Inverter software from?

How do I use the data logging in WatchPower/SolarPower?

In order to get the logging features to work you need to run the WatchPower software as 'Administrator'. To do this please follow these instructions:-

  • 1) Close down by right click on the WatchPower Icon in the tray at the bottom right of your screen and clicking on 'Exit'
  • 2) Launch WatchPower by Right Clicking on the WatchPower Icon on your Desktop or Start Menu and click 'Run as administrator'

The Logging features should now work, if you still have problems please make sure that the WatchPower process has been killed by using the task manager before re-launching as Administrator.

 

Who can install a Giant Power Inverter?

 

All installation should be carried out by qualified electricians according to Clean Energy Council guidelines and Australian Standards.

All Solar installations that are > 240W and >50 dc should be installed according to AS5033.

Both of these inverters can be installed according to AS5033.

What Kind Of Generators work with your IPS inverters?

Giant Power recommends "Inverter" generators that produce a pure AC sine wave. With any type of AC input (mains, generator etc) the inverter will have to check volt/frequency/waveform in order to make sure it is suitable to send bypass to load and to charge battery.  Below here is a list of the generator requirement that the R&D team recommends:

UPS mode:
- Generator waveform THD: < 10%.
- Generator Vrms range: 180 ~ 270Vac
- Generator voltage crest factor(Vpeak/Vrms): < 1.6
- Generator peak voltage: <380V
- Frequency range: 45Hz ~ 63Hz
- Frequency slew rate: <0.3Hz/sec

Appliance mode:
- Generator waveform THD: < 30%.
- If square wave output generator, output duty should greater than 60%
- Generator Vrms range: 100 ~ 270Vac
- Generator voltage crest factor(Vpeak/Vrms): < 1.6
- Generator peak voltage: <380V
- Generator frequency range: 45Hz ~ 63Hz
- Generator frequency slew rate: < 0.3Hz/sec

If the output waveform is not of suitable quality, it will not establish successful bypass/charging even if the voltage/frequency appears to be normal.   One option if your having trouble with the IPS recongnising  your generator is changing setting 03 to APL mode as this has a wider tolerance.

Do batteries pose a fire risk?

No.  The AGM and Tubular Gel batteries are a safe and proven technology which is not flammable.

Why is the Hybrid Inverter more expensive than the Offgrid Inverter?

The Hybrid Inverter is more complex as it contains a Solar Inverter, Battery Inverter, Solar Charger, Battery Charger and blends with the grid to increase maximum load.

 

How to I set PowerFactor on a Hybrid IGS?

Using the Solar Power Software, go to ‘Device Control’ – ‘Parameters Setting’

 

The Monitoring Software will not log

My inverter is showing an Error Codes – what do I do?

Common error codes are listed in the User Manual.  Please review the manual for their meaning and if that does not help contact Giant Power for technical support.

 

How do I configure my Solar Panels for an IPS-4000WM

The Maximum Voc of the IPS4000WM is 145v. For a Solar panel with a Voc = <40v you would need to install them in Strings of 3 panels in series. Using a Solar Panel configuration outside the specified range will void the warranty

 

OffGrid IPS-4000WM is working but there is no AC Output

Toggle the switch on the bottom right-hand side of the unit to switch on

Note that if you have seen a low voltage code ER04 or low DC CutOff voltage has been reached then AC Output will not be restored until the batteries have been fully installed. Please fully charge the batteries either from Solar or from your generator input.

 

My lights flicker once or twice a day using an Offgrid IPS

This can happen when your inverter line switches from Battery mode to the back up AC supply. Make sure setting ’03’ is set to UPS, transfer time should be <10ms. If you are using IPS in parallel mode this switching time may be up to 30ms as each inverter needs to switch together.

 

How to Autostart a Generator?

The OffGrid IPS Inverters support Generator Auto start via the NO/NC connections on the front of the units. Giant Power supply specially modified Hyundai generators that are compatible with the Off Grid IPS Inverter

 

Can I use a Grid connection & a Generator as a backup with autostart?

The Offgrid IPS support one AC Input so a separate changeover switch would need to be installed.

 

Can I install a Giant Power system in a shed?

The system must be installed in a dry, condensation free area with good ventilation. A garage is an ideal location.

 

Are the Inverter Fans noisy?

The fan speed and noise is proportional to the load, so it is advisable to install the unit somewhere where the background noise won't be an issue like a garage.

 

Can I install a Giant Power Inverter in my garden shed?

Garden sheds are often damp and condensation can cause damage to the units. Inverters should only be installed in dry areas.

 

How do I Disconnect / Reconnect an Inverter?

 

This is a summary of the procedure to Disconnect and Re-connect Giant Power Inverters. Please refer to the manual for full details.

 

SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE

 

For IGS Press ESC/OFF till buzzer sounds

For IPS Press the Off Switch at the bottom right of the unit & disconnect remote signal switch if used.

Step 1: Turn off “SOLAR SUPPLY MAIN SWITCH” in Switchboard

Step 2: Turn off “PV ARRAY DC ISOLATOR” Next to Inverter

 

DISCONNECT PROCEDURE

 

Step 3: Turn off AC Load/Grid Connect Breaker

Step 4: Turn off AC Input Breaker and/or Generator Input

Step 5: Open Battery DC Circuit Breaker

Step 6: Double check there is no DC or AC Power connected before touching the terminals.

You can now safely remove the unit.

 

CONNECTION PROCEDURE

 

For IGS Physically Connect Up the inverter as described in the Manual. Refer to Section 10. Commissioning in the Manual for procedure to switch unit on.

For IPS Physically Connect Up the inverter as described in the Manual.

Step 1: Turn on Battery

Step 2: Turn on PV

Step 3: Turn on AC Input (optional)

Step 4: Turn on Inverter using the rocker switch at the bottom right of the unit

Step 5: Switch on your load

 

How do I set up an Earth Fault Alarm?

 

Hybrid IGS-3000WM

The Giant Power IGS3000W is compliant with IEC62109-2 as required by AS5033:2014. Several methods can be used to alert the system owner aware that an earth fault has occurred.

1) The IGS unit will emit an audible alarm. To use this feature the IGS inverter should be installed in a location where operational staff or the system owner will be aware that the alarm is going off.

2) The IGS unit comes with Cabling that allows connection to a USB port on a computer. The provided SolarPower software comes in Windows/Mac & Linux formats and provides a full monitoring solution. The software can be set up to provide both SMS and Email alerts for a range of faults including Earth Faults. To set these features select

 

‘SolarPower Configuration’ - ‘SMS Setting’ or ‘E-mail’

Note: You will need details of your SMS or Email Server to connect to (available from your internet provider or IT support)

‘SolarPower Configuration’ - ‘Events’ to set up which alerts you require.

3) An optional RS485 Modbus card is available for purchase. This will allow connection to the inverter to standalone Modbus monitors or industrial Modbus system. Please contact Giant Power for details of the Modbus protocol.

 

Offgrid IPS-4000WM Earth Fault Alarm

 

The Giant Power IPS4000WM is a standalone offgrid inverter and is certified as IEC62109-1 & IEC62109-2 complaint as required by AS5033 section 4.3.11. The IPS4000-WM has a MPPT voltage range of 60-115v and as such is classified as ELV under AS5033:2014 so sections 3.4 Protection against Earth Faults do not apply providing the voltage is kept within this range.
